Food as Medicine?

7 Oct 2021 - 18 Nov 2021
4:00 pm
Class duration: one and a half hours

Food definitely influences health but can it be used as medicine?  On this course we will identify the nutritional components of food, find out why our bodies need them and identify why some foods are better eaten in conjunction with others.

We shall scrutinise food labelling.  Explore diet and supplements to improve health, particularly in relation to reducing the chances of developing Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and osteoporosis, discussing whether diet/food along can change outcomes in these. We will look at stories about using food as medicine that are found in the media and research some of these to find out if there is any scientfiic basis for the claims.

The course aims to give you overall knowledge of nutrition so that you can then make informed decisions to benefit the health of yourself and your family.
