Substitute
Who would honestly want to be a substitute ?
Though better that, than not being involved at all
Waiting in the wings - for your moment to come
Whether it be acting, singing, or playing football
You wonder how a substitute really feels
Sat there, waiting for their chance to shine
Do you think they hope, secretly, someone’s injured?
So they can appear, and, perform in good time?
It can be a frustrating role for anyone to play
All they can do is watch, and, wait patiently
Though, if they are never summoned to the cause
They have to hope “next time, please start with me!”
