Kate Williams at Duke Street Church

Arts Richmond

Duke Street Church - 19 November 2019

Kate Williams at Duke Street Church

Arts Richmond’s second contribution to the Richmond Literary Festival was a session with the eminent historian and author Kate Williams being interviewed  by  local journalist York Melbury.

The audience thoroughly enjoyed Kate’s exuberant approach to the evening.

She showed herself to be a mine of historical information which she was able to impart in a very clear and entertaining way.

It is no wonder that among her other talents she has been asked to appear on so many programmes on radio and television.

After a number of well judged probing questions from York, the information and anecdotes flowed effortlessly and the three quarters of an hour seemed all too short.

Fortunately there was still time for questions from the audience.

There were so many and she was so generous in her replies that some people did not get the opportunity to ask theirs before the time ran out.

She is a true communicator with a keen sense of her audience, and this reviewer felt that her students at Reading University, where she is a Professor of History, were fortunate indeed to have her teaching them.

Like all our authors Kate stayed to sign copies of her books and was generous enough to sign more which are still available at the Open Book in Richmond. Review by Peter Cregeen Picture by Holly Ibbs
