    ROBERT GILLESPIE celebrates a pivotal time in British theatre.  

    He was there; on stage as it was happening.   Who better to tell the tale?

    Best-known to television audiences as Dudley Rush, the cartoonist of classic comedy Keep It in the Family, Robert Gillespie has appeared in most of the best-loved British sitcoms of all time, including Rising Damp, Reginald Perrin, The Likely Lads, Dad’s Army, The Good Life … Recently Robert has appeared with Sean Bean in BBC’s Broken, with  Woody Harrelson in Lost in London, and is in Mike Leigh’s film Peterloo, to be released in November.

    On stage, working with stars such as Richard Burton, Claire Bloom,  Michael Caine and  Spike Milligan, and directors such as Joan Littlewood, George Devine and Peter Hall, there are plenty of theatrical tales for Robert to tell.

    His new book Are You Going to do That Little Jump? goes beyond the usual actor’s reminiscences. In a performed reading Robert gives hilarious, poignant, and at times provocative assessments of the profession that has been his life’s work.   

    Robert sheds fresh light on Twentieth Century theatre history, which will nudge listeners and readers into reappraising their views on the golden age of British theatre.
